WIPO: http://www.wipo.int

The WIPO (World Intellectual Property organisation) is responsible for patents, marks and designs at an international level. Patents can be applied for in all countries which belong to the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty), marks in all countries belonging to the Madrid agreement or protocol and designs in all countries belonging to the Hague system of international registrations of industrial designs.

OHIM: http://oami.eu.int

The OHIM (Office for Harmonization in the insternational market) is responsible for community trade marks and community designs which are valid in all countries of the European Union. These include all countries of the EU automatically. If another member state should join, the validity of the trade mark or the design is extended on this state automatically.

DPMA: http://www.dpma.de

The DPMA (German patent and trade mark office) is responsible for the registration as well as the further methods of all national patents, utility models, trade marks and designs within Germany.

EPA: http://www.european-patent-office.org

EPA (European Patent Office) is responsible for patents at an European level, but not bounded to the EU. The validity also includes non-EU states, like e.g. Switzerland and Norway as well as different East European states.

The patent Law Society is the professional association of the patent attorneys. It is involved in the further development of the patent, trade marks and design right. Here also personnel matters can be looked up such as the list of the patent attorneys and office addresses.
